Magic Markfield BMX Sports Club
Some Brilliant News
Although we were unsuccessful in our bid to the Community Forum for funding of our BMX Sports Club for Young People we now have some good news about funding. The Markfield Herald have kindly offerd to donate £1,000 towards the project and I have just been informed that our application to the BIG SOCIETY fund has also been approved in full. So, we are now "cooking on gas" abnd once we have recieved all the necessary letters of confirmation we should be in a position to start the project in time for the better spring weather.
Many thanks to all those who have given us their support for this exciting projec t for young people.
Below is an outline of the project and, if you can give us any help or support it would be much appreciated by the young people involved.
The project is based on a group of 20 + existing keen young people aged 14 to 25 years who currently regularly use the skate park. They want, with our support, to form their BMX sports club that will improve their personal skills and confidence as well as making them aware of how they can reduce the risk of personal injury whilst performing stunts and rides.
In addition the project will provide them with a place at the Centre to meet and socialise during inclement weather and to plan their activities.
The project also aims to provide members with an opportunity to become certified BMX sports leaders with a view to some of them eventually becoming sports coaches in this sport. The project also aims to give these young people the opportunity to develop their own stunt and display team, fund raise for site maintenance, to understand and address the concerns of local residents over litter and noise but above all be involved and responsible for their own club and activities. Currently a project to develop a BMX Track at the Jubilee Playing Fields in Markfield is taking place in partnership with Loughborough University. We feel that our project will complement the new BMX Track project once it is completed
